Alaskan Klee Kai came into existence in the 1970s in Alaska. They were bred with a motive to have the elegant appearance of a Siberian Husky but without its huge size and dynamic energy level.

This breed of dogs was started in the 1970s as part of a very interesting story. Linda Spurlin, An American lady was going to meet her family back in Colorado.

That’s when she came across an undersized Alaskan Husky. She was really curious as that dog looked and behaved like an Alaskan Husky except for its small size. She named this dog as ‘Curiosity‘.

She then returned to her home and her dog Curiosity started to get a lot of attention. She was the one who named this breed as Alaskan Klee Kai as it was a mixture between an Alaskan Husky and a small dog.

Today, this breed is recognised by United Kennel Club and American Rare Breed Association but not by American Kennel Club.

Alaskan Klee Kai looks more like Siberian Husky and is small, smart and energetic. They also have energy like Siberian Huskies and demand plenty of physical exercises and stimulation from their caretakers.

They are shy in front of strangers and express their feelings emotions with whines and barks, though they are not such loud barkers. They are a challenging breed to pet, especially for first-time pet owners.

Siberian Husky is a working dog breed with great power and athleticism. While Alaskan Klee Kai is a relatively new breed of dogs, Siberian Huskies have a very old history related to them.

They were first bred as sled dogs in extremely cold climatic conditions. Siberian Husky is a very beautiful dog breed with a thick coat and multiple colours.

They have very beautiful blue eyes and striking facial masks which add to this already extremely elegant breed.

The Alaskan Klee Kai comes in Toy, Miniature and standard sizes. Toy Alaskan Klee Kai’s are up to 13 inches tall, Miniature being in the range of 13 to 15 inches while the standard is 15 to 17 inches and above.

In terms of their weight, most of the Alaskan Klee Kai’s lies between 10 to 15 pounds but there are exceptions to this. Some of them can even be of 5 pounds while others can be of 20+ pounds as well.

When it comes to Siberian Huskies, An average stands tall between 21-24 inches while females stand at 20-22 inches.

In terms of their weight, most of the male Siberian Huskies are between the range of 40 to 60 pounds and females are between 30 to 50 pounds.

Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working dog which is quick and light on his feet. He has a northern heritage with a well-furred and moderately compact body with erect ears.

The body proportions and form of a Siberian Husky reflects a perfect blend of power, speed and endurance.

They are most commonly found in 3 main colours- black and white, red/light red and white, grey and white.

AKK is really Intelligent and loving to their families. They were originally bred to fulfil the need of a breed which has wolf-like looks but is a Companion family dog as well, which Huskies failed to fulfil at an extent.

Siberian Huskies are pack dogs and their owner needs to be a pack leader to train them to behave properly as per his needs and wishes. But they can test your position in the pack as well.

The key differences in the personality of Alaskan Klee Kai and Siberian Husky are that Huskies can become good Guard dogs whereas AKK will take more time and training to become a good guard or watchdog.

AKK is an energetic breed of dogs. Hence they need a good amount of diet to produce that energy as well. Their tendency to gain weight is fairly low.
